Retina Associates of Florida is a state-of-the art diagnostic and treatment center, as well as a leading clinical research center for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other retinal diseases. Their dedication to continuing research and development assures that patients receive the safest and most effective cutting-edge treatments available at their four locations in South Tampa, North Tampa, Brandon, and Lakeland.

Over 30 years ago, the physicians of Retina Associates of Florida dedicated their lives and careers to improving the early diagnosis and treatment of retinal and macular diseases, and to provide customer-oriented care at many convenient locations for their patients.

Today, Dr. Ivan J. Suñer and Dr. Marc C. Peden continue that commitment to providing our neighbors in Tampa Bay the latest treatments for retinal diseases like diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, retinal detachments, ocular tumors, vein occlusions, and macular degeneration. Drs. Suñer and Peden are fellowship trained macula and vitreoretinal surgeons and voted "Best Doctors in America" by their peers.

Retina Associates of Florida prides itself in being the longest retina-only practice in Tampa Bay. With more than 40 years of combined experience in patient care, research and teaching, Retina Associates of Florida has been involved in many of the clinical research trials with innovative treatments for retinal diseases like macular degeneration, vitreoretinal disease, retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy and more.

By staying in the forefront of their specialties, Retina Associates of Florida can provide treatments for conditions considered untreatable just five or ten years ago. In fact, when effective therapies are not available, Retina Associates has partnered with the industry to help develop them, such as Lucentis for Wet Macular Degeneration, Visudyne cold-laser (nondestructive) therapy for select forms of Wet Macular Degeneration, globe (eye)-sparing treatment with radiation for ocular melanoma, and in-office treatment of select retinal detachments with gas bubble and cryotherapy.

They are also active in presenting at international retina meetings to share their knowledge.  Dr. Peden recently presented a method for improving safety and patient comfort when injecting patients at the American Society of Retina Specialists Meeting.  Dr. Suñer shared RAF’s outstanding 10-year outcomes of consistent dosing for wet AMD, the largest group of patients with the longest follow up and best visual acuity outcomes, at the Retina Society Meeting.  They also provide teaching conferences to share the latest treatments with their community partners in optometry and ophthalmology.

Along with providing cutting-edge and effective therapies, the physicians at Retina Associates of Florida take pride in delivering customer-oriented service to their patients and referring doctors.  The technician and front-desk staff are hand-picked with customer service in mind.  Additionally they receive in-house training in customer service to deliver on this promise.

With an outstanding 99.2% result in a recent customer satisfaction Patient Survey, Retina Associates of Florida is constantly recommended to friends and relatives by happy and satisfied patients of the practice.

These are only some of the recent patient comments in regards to Retina Associates:

"Dr. Suñer is knowledgeable, helpful, courteous and always willing to answer any questions."

Chandrasekhar Karanam says, "Thoroughly professional and no nonsense at all. My experience has been really good. Dr. Peden is very warm, knowledgeable and very approachable, too. Front desk people are also polite and nice. I would recommend to anyone needing advanced eye care."

If you have been diagnosed with Wet Macular Degeneration, you may be eligible to participate in a clinical research study being performed at Retina Associates of Florida, the LADDER Trial. This study is studying the effectiveness of an implant to deliver consistent dosing of Lucentis, which avoids having monthly injections in the eye, as well as providing consistent dosing of this proven medication.

Retina and Associates is also currently involved in six other important clinical trials in the following studies; WET AMD: LADDER Trial and Allergan Sequoia Trial; Dry AMD: Metformin Trial and Chroma Trial; Diabetic Retinopathy - DRCR Protocol W trial, and DRCR Protocol AB Trial. The trials are sponsored, so eligible patients will not incur additional costs. To see if you are eligible to participate in any of these trials please contact Janet Traynom at 800-282-9141 extension 239.
